10 Everyday Small Changes for a Better Year

A New Year has begun and on the stroke of midnight many people wished for a better year. However you may wonder what can I do to have a better year? Today I decided to share with you all 10 everyday small changes for a better year. There are many small changes in your life that you can do that will make a big difference and possibly help you have a better and happier year. I hope these 10 small changes help you because they surely helped me in 2016 and I will continue to follow them in 2017!

For many years, I was really unhappy with myself and I personally did not show any love to myself. This past year I feel I finally decided to love myself for who I am. I feel like my love for myself has grown so much this past year! It might sound cheesy but take a second and look at yourself in the mirror and remind yourself that you are beautiful. Giving yourself compliments surrounds you with positive energy, which only makes you happier.
Keep a list of things that make you happy. I keep a list of things I like; that possibly turn into my Monthly Favorites, I keep a framed print-out of my She & Him Adventures: Our Year in Review, which is a list of all our 2016 adventures and our plans for 2017. Seeing these lists around me makes me very happy. Whenever I’m feeling kind of sad, I simply look at the list and it quickly brings a smile to my face.
Try and log off social media and spend the whole day away from it. I think it is important to have a day off social media every now and then. If you can, don't check your email and possibly your text messages too! Take a trip somewhere and ignore all of your electronic devices. I think sometimes we rely on social media to make us happy, that we don't realize there is so many things outside of social media that can make us even more happier than having to rely on Instagram likes.
Take some time everyday to do something that makes you smile. I personally love when I'm creating content for my blog. That can be either when I'm writing, when I am photographing, or when I'm designing. I love when I put my mind to work and I start getting creative, it such a good feeling. At the end of the day I am feeling accomplished, which is always a great way to end your day.
Sometimes we need more than just work and home to go to. It's very nice to have an extra place that you can go to when you leave work but don’t necessarily want to go home or a place to go to when you have a day off but don't want to be home. Last year when I started blogging, I found myself wanting to find an additional place where I can blog happily besides home. That's when I found a small coffee shop in my neighborhood and it quickly became an additional place where I can happily blog. Plus, I love the small chats I would have with kind coffee lovers and baristas.
If you are someone like me, always rushing in the morning to get dressed and grab a bite to eat than doing this will definitely help you start a better day which leads to a better year. Take 15 minutes each night to make your mornings easier. Prep and pack your lunch, pick out your clothes. Those 15 minutes at night save you a confusing 20-25 minutes of wondering what to wear or what to eat. It works! I leave much happier to work in the morning which is always a great way to start your work day.
Enjoy the sun! If you have a day off don't spend it hiding indoors with your blinds closed. Open your windows and let the sun shine through the windows, or take a walk outside, or if you are feeling adventurous go to the beach. It’s the little things like sunshine that brighten your day.
It's great to love yourself and do things to make yourself happy but also try and do something nice for someone you care about. Doing something nice for them makes them feel good, and it also makes you feel good. At the end this will make your relationship stronger and happier.
If you aren't a reader than you should definitely pickup a book. It can be very relaxing, funny, and a thrilling experience. When reading a book you are able to experience places without traveling. This past year I picked up and read a lot of books and it made me very happy, I already have a few I will be reading this year.
Lastly, get some rest! Don't overbook yourself with too much to do and not enough time. Usually when that happens it means you have to wake up really early and sleep really late. Next thing you know, you will not be sleeping enough. Try and stick to a sleep routine and make sure you're getting enough rest, being well rested is always the best way to start your day.

I hope these 10 everyday small changes help you make your year better. I hope this year is filled with many happy memories to cherish. Thank you for reading and see you all next time!
